Procedure
The piperazine Example 2 (500 mg, 1.36 mmol), BrCH2CH2Cl (0.7 mL), and K2CO3 (320 mg, 2.3 mmol) were taken up in CH3CN (2 mL) and stirred at 25° C. for 18 h. The solution was partitioned between EtOAc and water. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried (MgSO4), Filtration and concentration gave a yellow oil. The residue was purified via gradient flash chromatography (0-15% EtOAc in CH2Cl2, SiO2) which gave 357 mg (61%) of the chloro-ethyl piperazine as a yellow oil.
