Procedure

The compound (153 mg, 0.19 mmol) obtained in Step 2 above was dissolved in acetonitrile (10 ml) and water (3 ml), cerium (IV) diammonium nitrate (207 mg, 0.38 mmol) was added under ice cooling and the resulting mixture was stirred for 10 minutes. Potassium carbonate (104 mg, 0.76 mmol) was added to the reaction mixture and the precipitated insoluble matter was removed by filtration through celite. The filtrate was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated, the residue was purified by NH-silica gel column chromatography (chloroform:methanol=100:0→40:1) and then the residue was dissolved in 2-propanol (10 ml) and stirred at 50° C. for 2 days. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and then the residue was purified by chiral column liquid chromatography [fractionation conditions: CHIRALPAK IC, n-hexane:ethanol=2:3 (v/v)] to give 67 mg (57%) of the title compound as a colorless solid.
