A solution containing 175 mg of 5-chloro-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde, 142 mg of 3,5-dichlorothiophenol and 132 mg of potassium carbonate in 5 ml of anhydrous N,N-dimethylformamide was stirred under nitrogen at 60° C. for 2 h. The mixture was diluted with 10 ml of water and extracted three times with 8 ml of dichloromethane. The combined extracts were dried over magnesium sulphate, filtered and evaporated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel using dichloromethane for the elution to give 164 mg of 5-(3,5-dichlorophenylthio)-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde as a yellow oil. Mass spectrum (EI) m/z 362 [M]+.
