Conditions
- Temperature
- 85 °C
Procedure
A mixture of 2.5 g of 1,5-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2H-pyrrol-2-one in 75 cm3 of 1-hexanol and 1.3 g of Amberlite IR 120 H is heated to 85° C. for 2 hours. After allowing to cool to ambient temperature, the resin is filtered off and the solvent is evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue is distilled, and 3.4 g of the expected product is obtained. b.p. 120°-125° C. under 0.4 mbar.
