Procedure

3-Benzylthio-5-methylamino-1,2,4-triazole (11.2 g) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (70 ml) and triethylamine (5.7 g) was added. Acetyl chloride (4 ml) in tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours. The triethylamine hydrochloride was filtered off, and the filtrate was concentrated to give 13.4 g of the desired crude product.
