Procedure

A solution of 4-bromo-1H-imidazole (2.00 g) in THF (30 ml) was cooled to −78° C. A solution of tert-butyllithium in pentane (1.7 M; 22 ml) was added to the solution. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1.5 h and then cooled to −78° C. 6-formylnaphtho[2,3-d][1,3]dioxol (3.00 g) in THF (30 ml) was added to the mixture. The mixture was allowed to room temperature and was stirred for 16 h. Ammonium chloride solution was added to the mixture and precipitate was collected, washed with water and ethyl acetate to give the titled compound (1.10 g) as a colorless solid.
