Procedure
15.0 g (50.7 mmol) of 3,4-di(2-methoxyethoxymethoxy)benzonitrile was dissolved in 15.0 ml of pyridine, and 7.5 ml (50 mmol) of triethylamine was added thereto. To this solution, hydrogen sulfide gas was introduced and stirred at room temperature for 6 hours. To the reaction solution, ethyl acetate and water were added. The organic layer was separated and then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain 18.8 g (yield: 100%) of crude 3,4-di(2-methoxyethoxymethoxy)thiobenzamide. The product was used for the subsequent reaction without purification.
