Procedure
To a solution of 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-5-cyano-4,7-dihydro-3-hydroxy-6-propyl-2H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine (12.5 g) in THF (400 mL) was added triethylamine (4.5 g), dimethylaminopyridine (0.5 g) and di-t-butylcarbonate (9.6 g) and the mixture was stirred for 3 hours. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give the title compound (12 g) as colorless crystals.
