To a solution of (5-Methoxy-1H-indol-3-ylsulfanyl)-acetic acid methyl ester 26, in THF (4.0 mL) was added an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide (1.0 mL of 1M) which was stirred at room temperature for 4 h. The acid was neutralized with aqueous HCl, extracted the product with ethyl acetate, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, evaporated under reduced pressure, and purified via trituration with tetrabutyl ethyl ether to afford 27 as a white solid (4.5 mg, 5%). MS(ESI) [M+H−]+=443.95
