To a suspension of methyl 4′-fluoro-2-hydroxy-1,1′-biphenyl-4-carboxylate (D75) (400 mg, 1.6 mmol) in DMF (10 ml) was added cesium carbonate (1.27 g, 3.9 mmol) and 2-methoxyethylbromide (400 mg, 1.6 mmol) and the reaction was heated at 80° C. overnight. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in EtOAc, washed with water and brine, then dried over MgSO4 to give the title compound (494 mg) which was used without further purification in the next step. MS(ES): (M-MeOH)H+ 273.
