In a vial, 500 mg (2.5 mmol) of 3′,5′-dimethoxy-4′-hydroxyacetophenone was combined with 4-(2-chloroethyl)morpholine hydrochloride (600 mg, 3.2 mmol), and powdered potassium carbonate (1.5 g, excess). Dimethylformamide (2 mL) was added, the vial was sealed, and the rxn was heated to 80° C. overnight. The reaction was diluted with water and extracted with diethyl ether. The organic extract was washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), and evaporated in vacuo to afford 540 mg (67%) of 14 as a white solid.
