1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-trifluoromethyl-2-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-pentyl acrylate was synthesized according to the method of Example 4 but substituting (a) 60 g (0.25 mol) of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-trifluoromethyl-4-methyl-2,5-pentanediol (2) for diol (4), (b) 311 mL (0.497 mol) of methyllithium (1.6M in ether) for the n-butyllithium, and (c) 22.3 g (0.248 mol) of acryloyl chloride for the methacryloyl chloride, to yield 58 g (86%) of the title compound as a clear colorless oil.
