To a cooled (5° C.) solution of 1-(3-Hydroxy-quinolin-2-yl)-ethanone (1.96 g, 10.5 mmol) in 100 mL dichloromethane was added triethylamine (1.59 g, 2.19 mL. 15.75 mmol). After 10 minutes p-toluenesulfonyl chloride (2.191 g, 11.5 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The mixture was washed with 1N HCl, water, and brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 3.58 g of toluene-4-sulfonic acid 2-acetyl-quinolin-3-yl ester.
