A mixture of 1-(4-formylphenyl)cyclopropanecarbonitrile (0.30 g, 0.0018 mol), pyrrolidine (0.18 mL, 0.0021 mol) and sodium triacetoxyborohydride (0.74 g, 0.0035 mol) in methanol (5.0 mL, 0.12 mol) was stirred at rt for 1 h. The reaction mixture was adjusted to be basic (pH=12) and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic extract was washed with brine, dried and concentrated to provide the desired product.
