To a solution of 2′-fluoro-4′-methyl-5-thiazol-5-yl-biphenyl-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.327 g, 1 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added a solution of LiOH—H2O (1.2 mmol) in H2O (15 mL) at 0° C. The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and THF was removed under reduced pressure. The aqueous solution was acidified to pH=2, and the solid was collected by filtration and dried to yield 2′-Fluoro-4′-methyl-5-thiazol-5-yl-biphenyl-3-carboxylic acid as a white solid (75%), MS (M+H)=314.
