Procedure

To a solution of 1-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-3-(3-methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5(4H)-one (0.200 g, 0.52 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) was added iron powder (0.060 g, 1.84 mmol) and conc. HCl (2 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h. The reaction mass was quenched in water, basified with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and extracted with DCM. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate and concentrated to afford 0.150 g of desired product. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO d6): δ 3.80 (s, 3H), 5.34 (s, 2H), 6.66 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 7.18-7.21 (m, 2H), 7.58 (m, 1H), 7.69 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 2H), 12.27 (s, 1H); MS (m/z): 351.05 (M)+.
