Procedure
To a solution of 64.1 (64 mg, 0.22 mmol) in wet methylene chloride (5 mL) at room temperature, under nitrogen was added Dess-Martin periodinane (140 mg, 0.33 mmol) and the resulting suspension stirred for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with Na2S2O3 (10% in H2O) and saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution and the organic phase was separated. The aqueous layer was extracted with AcOEt and the combined organic layer was washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue obtained was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (50% ethyl acetate-hexane) to give 65.1 (52 mg, 82% yield) as a white solid (m p 75-77° C.).
