5-bromo-1-[(2,2-difluorocyclopropyl)methyl]-3-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole 2,2-dioxide (4-1) (100 mg, 0.28 mmol, 1 eq), [2-fluoro-5-(methoxycarbonyl)phenyl]boronic acid (84 mg, 0.43 mmol, 1.5 eq), cesium carbonate (185 mg, 0.57 mmol, 2.0 eq) and bis(tri-t-butylphosphine)palladium(0) (29 mg, 0.06 mmol, 0.2 eq) were combined in dioxane (1.5 mL) and water (0.3 mL). The resulting mixture was heated in the microwave at 100° C. for 10 minutes. The reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc (10 mL), washed with water (2 mL) and brine (2 mL), dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude residue was purified by flash chromatography (12 g SiO2, 0-70% EtOAc in hexanes) to afford methyl 3-{1-[(2,2-difluorocyclopropyl)methyl]-3-methyl-2,2-dioxido-1,3-dihydro-2,1,3-benzothiadiazol-5-yl}-4-fluorobenzoate (17-1) as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.14 (dd, J=1.6, 6.0 Hz, 1 H); 8.01 (m, 1 H); 7.21 (m, 2 H); 6.95 (t, J=1.2 Hz, 1 H); 6.90 (d, J=6.4 Hz, 1 H); 3.94 (s, 3 H); 3.91 (d, J=5.6 Hz, 2 H); 3.33 (s, 3 H); 2.14 (m, 1 H); 1.64 (m, 1 H); 1.39 (m, 1 H).
