A mixture of 1′-benzyl-6-bromo-spiro[chromane-2,4′-piperidine]-4-one (3.0 g, 7.8 mmol) and NaBH4 (1.47 g, 38.75 mmol) in MeOH (20 ml) was stirred at RT. After 3 h, the solution was poured into water and the product was extracted with DCM (50 ml). The organic phase was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated under vacuum to give 1′-benzyl-6-bromo-4-hydroxy-spiro[chromane-2,4′-piperidine] (3.0 g) as a light yellow solid.
