2-(Benzo[b]thien-3-yl)ethylamine (0.75 g, 4.23 mmol) was dissolved in DMF (5 mL) and 5 equivalents of Ac2O and 3 equivalents of Et3N were added. The mixture was stirred for 18 h at room temperature, diluted with H2O (25 mL) and extracted with CH2Cl2 (2×25 mL). The organic extracts were dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to a residue to provide 0.88 g (94%) of 4 as a viscous liquid. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ1.88 (s, 3, --CH3), 3.00(m, 2, --CH2 --), 3.54 (m, 2, CH2 --NH), 6.29 (br s, 1, NH), 7.10 (s, 1, CH--S), 7.25-7.37 (m, 2, phenyl), 7.72-7.86 (m, 2, phenyl).
