A mixture of 65 mg of biphenyl-3-sulfonyl chloride (0.25 mmol), 44 mg of 3,4,5-trimethoxyaniline (0.24 mmol), and 0.3 mmol of triethylamine in 5 mL DMF was stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was treated with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. After a conventional workup, column chromatography (silica gel, petroleum ether/ethyl acetate) gave 88 mg compounds (4d) (91.7%). 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.96 (t, 1H, J=1.8 Hz), 7.81-7.74 (m, 2H), 7.57-7.40 (m, 6H), 6.33 (s, 2H), 3.86 (s, 3H), 3.80 (s, 6H). MS (ESI) m/z 422.1 (M+Na)+.
