3 grams (g) (18.85 millimoles (mmol)) of 6-aminonaphthalene-2-ol is dissolved in 100 milliliters (mL) of acetone, and 4 g (20.7 mmol) of 1-bromooctane and 13.0 g (94.2 mmol) of potassium carbonate (K2CO3) are added thereto. The reaction mixture is stirred under reflux at 60° C. for 24 hours, and cooled down to room temperature (25° C.). The obtained reaction mixture is concentrated, and purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane:EtOAc=3:1 volume ratio), to give 4.5 g (16.6 mmol) of 6-octyloxynaphthalene-2-amine. The yield is 88%.
