Procedure
A mixture of 6-(4-chlorobenzylthio)-5-cyanopicolinoyl chloride hydrochloride 81 (60 mg, 0.17 mmol) and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (89 ul, 0.51 mmol) in dimethylformamide (2 ml) was stirred for 6 hrs at room temperature. After removal of the solvent, the residue was triturated with ether and the resulting solid was collected by filtration to afford 40 mg (74%) of the desired product 84. 1H NMR (600 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.79 (d, 1H, J=4.8 Hz), 8.37 (d, 1H, J=7.8 Hz), 7.84 (d, 1H, J=8.4 Hz), 7.49 (d, 2H, J=9 Hz), 7.38 (d, 2H, 9 Hz), 4.76 (s, 2H), 2.89 (d, 3H, J=4.8 Hz).
