To 200 mg (0.821 mmol) 7-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-isoquinoline-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester hydrochloride and 157 mg (0.821 mmol) (S)—N-(1-(4-formylphenyl) ethyl) acetamide (example III) in 5 mL THF are added 141 μL (2.46 mmol) AcOH and the mixture is stirred at r.t. for 10 min. After that time, the resulting mixture is cooled to 0° C., 261 mg (1.23 mmol) sodium triacetoxyborohydride are added and the reaction mixture is stirred at r.t. for 2 h. After that time, the reaction is quenched by addition of 500 μL water and purified by HPLC (ACN/H2O/NH3).
