Procedure
A solution of 2-isobutoxycarbonylamino-3-phenyl-propionic acid (5 gm), dichloromethane (25 mL) and dimethylformamide (0.5 mL) was cooled to 0-5° C. To the resulting solution, thionyl chloride (1.5 mL) was added at same temperature. The solvent was distilled out completely to obtain the title compound.
