To a stirred solution of compound 3 (1.85 g, 1 eq.), in dry DMF (10 mL) were added benzyl alcohol (1.25 mL, 1.2 eq.) and K2CO3 (2.8 g, 2 eq.). The reaction mixture was stirred for 16 hrs under nitrogen. Water was then added and the reaction was extracted with TBDME. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, concentrated under reduced pressure, and purified by chromatography on silica gel (DCM/MeOH) to yield compound 4 as beige solid in 70% yield.
