Potassium carbonate (2.275 g) was added to a solution of 5-cyclopentanecarbonyl-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroacetylamino)thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1.150 g) in methanol (17 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. Water and ethyl acetate were added. The 5 organic phase was separated off, and the aqueous phase was re-extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The combined organic phases were dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated. The product with the molecular weight of 253.32 (C12H15NO3S) was obtained in this way; MS (ESI): 254 (M+H+).
