To a stirred solution of 6-methyl-7-methoxy-quinoline (3.0 g, 17.3 mmol) in DMF (20 ml) was added NBS (3.4 g, 19 mmol). The resulting suspension was stirred for 3 h at 60° C. and monitored by LCMS. The reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc (100 ml) and filtered. The organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3 and brine, dried over Na2SO4 and then purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel to give the desired product (2.9 g, 67%). MS (ES) m/z 251.6 (M+H+).
