A solution of HCl in dioxane (4 N, 5.0 mL) is added to 4-[5-(4-methanesulfonyl-phenyl)-2,3-dihydro-benzofuran-2-yl]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (750 mg) in dichloromethane (1 mL) and the resulting mixture is stirred for 5 min at room temperature. The solvents are evaporated in vacuo to give the title compound as its hydrochloric acid salt. Mass spectrum (ESI+): m/z=358 [M+H]+.
