To a solution of ethyl 2-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-[4-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)phenyl]butanoate (316 mg, 0.902 mmol) in tetrahyrofuran/methanol (4:1, 10 mL) was added a solution of lithium hydroxide monohydrate in water (1.8 M, 3.61 mmol). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature overnight. The mixture was diluted with aqueous 1N HCl and extracted with ether 2×. The combined organic extracts were washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to dryness to afford 2-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-[4-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)phenyl]butanoic acid as an oil. 286 mg. LCMS: (M−1) 321.3.
