1.51 ml (24.26 mmol) of methyl iodide are added, under an inert atmosphere at ambient temperature, to 8 g (23.1 mmol) of the sodium salt of 2-amino-5-[(1-methoxy-2-methylindolizin-3-yl)carbonyl]benzoic acid (described in WO 03/084956) in 130 ml of DMF. After stirring for 1 hour, water is added. The precipitate formed is filtered off, rinsed with water, and then dried under reduced pressure at 50° C. overnight. 7.17 g of a yellow solid are obtained.
