Copper(I) bromide (66 mg, 0.462 mmol) was added to a solution of 94A (1.1 g, 4.62 mmol) in iodo benzene (3.77 g, 18.48 mmol) followed by potassium carbonate (2.55 g, 18.48 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at 100° C. for 10 min. NaOH (150 mg, 3.75 mmol) and copper(II) acetate (10 mg, 0.055 mmol) was added at 140° C., and the mixture was stirred for 9 h. Insoluble solids were filtered, the filtrate was concentrated and partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. Organic layer was separated, washed with brine, dried over sodium sulphate and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and purified by flash chromatography using 8% ethyl acetate in hexane to afford title compound (1.0 g, 68.9%) as an oil. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.80 (d, J=2.1 Hz, 1H), 7.54-7.42 (m, 5H), 7.4-7.28 (m, 2H), 7.21-7.08 (m, 2H), 3.19 (m, 1H), 1.38 (d, J=6.9 Hz, 6H).
