Procedure
A solution of Example 2B (7.75 g, 31.2 mmol) and THF (116 mL) was cooled to <5° C. and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (7.91 mL, 53.0 mmol) and diphenylphosphoryl azide (10.09 mL, 46.8 mmol) were added. The yellow slurry was warmed slowly to ambient temperature, becoming a brown solution. After 14 hours, the mixture was concentrated, diluted with MTBE (200 mL), and washed with 2N NaOH (50 mL×2), brine (50 mL), 2N HCl (50 mL×2), and brine (50 mL). The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated to give the title compound. This material was used without further purification in the next step.
