Procedure
A stirred solution of unsaturated ester 14, (1.2 g, 2.9 mmol) and PtO2, 0.12 g in acetic acid (25 mL) and conc. HCl (5 mL) was hydrogenated at room temperature for 16 hours. The catalyst was removed by filtration through Hyflo and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness to afford the saturated ester 15, 0.8 g (90%).
