A solution of lithium hydroxide (66 mg, 2.75 mmol) in H2O (10 mL) was added to a solution of 7-chloro-5-methylsulfanyl-2-phenoxymethyl-imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidine (0.70 g, 2.29 mmol) in THF (10 mL). The mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 4 hours and then diluted with DCM. The organic layer was separated, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and the solvents evaporated in vacuo to yield 7-chloro-2-phenoxymethyl-6H-imidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidin-5-one (0.62 g, 98% yield) as a white solid that was used in the next step without further purification.
