To a cooled solution of 1-[2-(1,1-dioxido-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzothiazepin-4(5H)-yl)-6-methylquinolin-4-yl]pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid (120 mg, 0.26 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 mL) was added two drops of N,N-dimethylformamide followed by oxalyl chloride (30.6 μL, 0.39 mmol) at 0° C. After being stirred for 16 hours at room temperature, the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to afford 100 mg of the crude product which was used for the next step without any further purification.
