2.00 g (5.62 mmol) (1R)—N-Boc-1-(5-bromo-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-2-hydroxyethylamine in 40 ml of ethyl acetate are combined with 8.0 ml 4-molar hydrochloric acid in dioxane while cooling in the ice bath and stirred for 16 hours at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture is evaporated down and the resulting precipitate is filtered off.
