To a suspension of 4-cyano-N-thiazol-2-yl-benzenesulfonamide (10 mmol) and potassium carbonate (15 mmol) in DMF (30 mL) was added chloro-methoxy-methane (10 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 4 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (30 mL) and the resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by column chromatography to give 4-cyano-N-methoxymethyl-N-thiazol-2-yl-benzenesulfonamide (8.2 mmol) as a white solid.
