In a 100 mL round bottom flask, 2-(bromomethyl)-1,3,4-trichlorobenzene (550 mg, 2.0 mmol), 6-methyl-2-sulfanylpyrimidin-4-ol (250 mg, 2.0 mmol), and potassium carbonate (306 mg, 2.2 mmol) were mixed in DMF (10 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Water (50 mL) was added. The mixture was filtered and washed with water and ethyl acetate to provide the title compound as a white solid (450 mg, 70% yield); 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 2.11 (s, 3H), 5.43 (s, 2H), 5.89 (s, 1H), 6.57 (br, 1H), 7.56 (d, 1H), 7.71 (d, 1H); M+ 318, 320.
