Combined N-benzyl-6-hydrazinylnicotinamide (200 mg, 0.826 mmol), methyl 3-(dimethylamino)-2-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylate (170 mg, 0.826 mmol) and TFA (0.127 mL, 1.651 mmol) in ethanol (3 mL) and stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction mixture was diluted in EtOAc (50 mL), washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate (20 ml), brine (20 ml), dried with Na2SO4 and concentrated to give the title compound (244 mg) as an orange solid, was used without further purification. MS m/z [M+H]+ 404.4.
