To a solution of 1.00 g (2.985 mmol) of the product of Example 3 in 7.5 mL of DMF was added 0.514 g (3.134 mmol) of 3-picolyl chloride hydrochloride and 1.30 g (9.50 mmol) of potassium carbonate. The rection was stirred for 18 h at room temre and then an additional 0.051 g of 3-picolyl chloride hydrochloride and 0.130 g of potassium carbonate was added and the reaction was steeed for 18 h at room temperature. The reaction was then diluted with water and extracted with ether. The combined organic layers were extrated with 6N HCl solution and the aqueous acid layer was then basified with 6N NaOH solution and then extracted with ether. The resulting ether layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Trituration of the residue with ether provided 1.058 g (83%) of the desired product as a white solid.
