Procedure
A mixture of 36-4 (2.5 g, 7.0 mmol), HgO (3.0 g, 13.9 mmol), sulfur (42 mg) and EtOH (50 mL) was refluxed for 2.5 h. Filtration and concentration gave a brown gum which was purified by flash chromatography (silica, 9:1 CH2Cl2 /CH3OH) to provide 36-5 as a tan solid.
