To a stirred mixture of tert-butyl 5-[1-(1-methylethyl)-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-3-yl]-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole-1-carboxylate in AcOEt/EtOH (1/1, 10 mL) was added 4N HCl in AcOEt (4 mL). The mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 2 h, evaporated, treated with saturated NaHCO3, and extracted with AcOEt. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was suspended in IPE and the suspension was collected by filtration to give the title compound as white crystals (313 mg).
