To a mixture of ethyl(6-((2,4-dichlorobenzyl)oxy)-1-benzothiophen-3-yl)acetate (200 mg), MeOH (2.0 mL), THF (dry) (3.0 mL) and water (1.0 mL) was added lithium hydroxide hydrate (63.7 mg). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. After the mixture was concentrated, the residue was neutralized with 1M HCl, and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residual solid was crystallized from EtOAc-hexane to give the title compound (177.7 mg).
