To a mixture of methyl 3-(2-ethoxy-2-oxoethoxy)thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate 7-oxide (500 mg) and DMF (8 mL) was added TFAA (2.233 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 h. After evaporation of TFAA, the residue was added to water at 0° C., and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with hexane to give the title compound (418.5 mg).
