Isolated α-methylchalcone, 1.5 g (85% pure product by gas liquid chromatography) (0.00578 mole) is reacted with 0.55 g (0.008 mole) of 75% hydrazine hydrate in 7.5 ml of methanol and 1 ml of water under N2 at reflux (68° C) for 1 hour. Gas liquid chromatography shows the α-methylchalcone had reacted to form 3,5-diphenyl-4-methylpyrazoline.
