To a stirred solution of (S)-tert-butyl 2-((1R,2R)-2-(4-bromophenyl)-1-(methoxycarbonyl)-cyclopropylcarbamoyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (3 g) in THF (45 mL) and water (30 mL) was added lithium hydroxide monohydrate (0.298 g). The mixture was stirred at RT for 2 h. The mixture was partitioned between 0.1 N HCl(aq) and ethyl acetate, and the aqueous phase was extracted twice more with ethyl acetate. The combined organic phases were dried over sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to leave the title compound (2.90 g) as a white solid.
