A mixture of 1-[5-(2,6-dimethyl-phenyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-3-yl]-2-ethyl-butan-1-one (200 mg, 0.62 mmol), 2,4-dichloro-6-ethyl-pyrimidine (221 mg, 1.25 mmol), Cs2CO3 (305 mg, 0.93 mmol), and DMF (3 mL) is stirred for 4 h at room temperature. The mixture is diluted with EtOAc (10 mL), and the obtained solution is washed with water and brine, dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated under reduced pressure. Chromatography of the residue on silica gel (hexane-EtOAc, 1:1) gives 1-[1-(2-chloro-6-ethyl-pyrimidin-4-yl)-5-(2,6-dimethyl-phenyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridin-3-yl]-2-ethyl-butan-1-one as colorless oil.
