A solution of 1.94 g (3.50 mmol of the product of Step B in 20 mL of glacial acetic acid was treated with 20 mL of 48% hydrogen bromide and stirred at reflux for 8 hours. The cooled reaction mixture was treated with water to crystallize the product which was separated by filtration, washed with water and air dried to give the title product, 1.45 g (100%), m.p. softens about 210° C. and melts at 220° C. Anal. Calcd. for C17H11ON3Cl4 : 412.9656. Found: 412.9722.
