The title compound was prepared by Method A using ethyl (4-acetyl-phenoxy)acetate (2.14 g, 9.67 mmol), trimethylsilyl triflate (4.48 mL, 23.20 mmol), triethylamine (12.93 mL, 38.6 mmol), methylene chloride (20 mL), and diethyl ester of [(2-isopropylphenyl)thio]propanedioic acid (2.00 g, 6.45 mmol) m.p. 194-196° C.; ; 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 1.57 (m, 9H), 3.41 (m, 1H), 4.81 (q, 2H), 4.89 (s, 2H), 6.75 (s, 1H), 6.90 (d, 1H), 7.05 (m, 4H), 7.26 (d, 1H), 7.79 (d, 2H).
